Burtis K. Webb

February 26, 1933 ~ August 27, 2015 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Burtis K. Webb—husband, father, “Paw,” brother, and friend—was born in Mayking, KY to Creed and Dora Webb. He joined his parents in eternal life on August 27, 2015 at the age of 82 years old. As a young man, Burtis spent four years serving his country in the U.S. Navy. After receiving degrees from Pikeville College and the University of Kentucky, he went on to work in the Letcher County School system for over thirty years. Throughout those years, he touched the lives of many—both in the classroom and while serving as director of the local Job Training Partnership Act program. Burtis was a member of Millstone Missionary Baptist Church. Burtis married the love of his life, Mary Jo Day on December 21, 1956. They spent fifty-eight wonderful years together and had two daughters: Eugenia Pigman and husband Tim of Mayking, KY, and Carmella Webb and husband Danny of Whitesburg, KY; and three grandchildren: Megan Pigman of Lexington, KY, and Maggie Webb and Daniel Webb of Whitesburg, KY. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Burtis is survived by four sisters: Betty Simpson and husband Richard of Greeneville, TN; Velda Bush and husband Robert of Louisville, KY; Sue Back of Crestwood, KY; Sharon Collins and husband James of Lexington, KY; one sister-in-law, Iris “Canna” Webb of Lawrenceberg, KY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Burtis was preceded in death by his two brothers, Charles Webb and Anthony “Ben” Webb. Funeral: Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church with Bill Craft, Phillip Meade, and Mark Webb officiating. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Saturday and 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Thornton Cemetery at Thornton, Kentucky.
