David Darrel Combs, 66, of Whitco, Kentucky, entered eternal life Monday, February 5, 2018, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. After his stroke in November, 2016, David had been a resident of Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg where he made many new friends. David was known to many as “Big Duke” from his youth. He enjoyed television, westerns, crime shows, 70s’ shows, action movies, the comic book genre, working puzzles, and spending time with his family. David was the son of Alberta (Hatton) Barker and Jerry Barker of Whitco, Kentucky. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two sisters: Sherry Barker Sturgill and Missy Caudill (and her husband, Chris); one niece: Laken Caudill; two nephews: Matt Sturgill (and his fiancée, Lacie Couch) and Levi Caudill. All his family has been blessed to live close together in same neighborhood of Whitco. Also surviving are a special aunt, Fleta Mae Brown of Whitco, and a host of family and friends (old and new) to mourn David’s passing. David was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Mattie Mae Hatton, of Whitco; his father, Joseph Combs, Jr., of Whitesburg; and far too many other loved family members and friends. Visitation is at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, February 8, 2018, from 6 to 9 PM with family welcome at 5 PM. The funeral will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Collier officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine Ky.
