  • July 11, 2008 - Vera Boggs Mitchell, 91, of Kingscreek passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Letcher Manor Nursing Home. Vera was the daughter of the late Jonah and Pearlie Hampton Boggs. She was the widow of Isaac Mitchell. Surviving are 3 daughters: Pearlie Ross of Anderson, Indiana, Wanda Carol Evans of Columbus, Indiana, and Darlene Decarola Weaver of Fishers, Indiana; 5 sons: Billy Ray, Marston, Isaac Jr., and Elwood all of Columbus, Indiana and Hiram "Tug" Mitchell of Kingscreek; 2 brothers: Less Boggs of Cowan and Glenn Boggs of Columbus, Indiana; 2 sisters: Iva Dean Day and Yvonne Ison both of Columbus Indiana; 21 grandchildren, 17 step grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. Funeral: 1:00 O'clock P.M. Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation: 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hogg Cemetery at Kingscreek, Kentucky.

 

  • July 6, 2008 - Mae Maggard, 86, of Ovenfork passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at his residence. Mae was the daughter of the late Jesse and Nancy Craft Leon. Mae was the widow of Estill Maggard. Surviving are 1 son: Wayne Maggard of Rutledge, Tennessee; 3 daughters: Barbara Ann Crabtree of Rutledge, Tennessee, Brenda Collier of Ovenfork, and Thelma Jean Halcomb of Eolia; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Funeral: 12:00 O'clock Noon Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Franks Creek Church. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Franks Creek Church. Burial will follow in the: Boggs Cemetery at Ovenfork, Kentucky.

 

  • July 4, 2008 - Annetha Ferl Hurst, 68, of Sergent passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Annetha was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sadie Robbins Hurst.  Surviving are 3 daughters: Billie Hatton of Sergent, Patricia Ison of Cowan, and Donna Collins of Jenkins; 1 stepdaughter: Barbara Harris of Indiana; 1 stepson: Carlos Caudill of Jenkins; 1 brother: Leslie Hurst of Bell County; 2 sisters: Glezlann Hurst and Brenda Hurst both Michigan; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.  Funeral: 2:00 O'clock P.M. Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hall Cemetery at Ermine, Kentucky.

 

  • July 2, 2008 - Vina Caudill, 98, of Whitesburg passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Whitesburg A.R.H. Vina was the daughter of the late William Bill and Sarah Dixon Ison. She was the widow of George Caudill. Surviving are 2 daughters: Joy Bird of Cincinnati and Edna Caudill of Somerset; 1 daughter-in-law: Mary Margaret Caudill of Prestonsburg; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral: 11:00 O'clock A.M. Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at Whitesburg, Kentucky.

 

  • June 30, 2008 - Gola Perry, 86, of Whitesburg passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Whitesburg A.R.H. Gola was the daughter of the late Dan and Peggy Rachel Slaven Taylor. She was the widow of Henry "Coy" Perry. Surviving are 2 daughters: Cora Lee Holbrook of Ermine and Rachel Tostenson of Georgia; 6 sons: Virgil Perry of Georgia, Gordon Perry of Ermine, Doyle Perry of Ice, Rosco Perry of Seco, Stanley Perry of Cowan, and Willard Perry of Alabama; 3 sisters: Betty Pease, Geneva Adams, and Isabell Pease all of Ermine; 15 grandchildren, host of great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral: 10:30 O'clock A.M. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Eagle Creek Church in McCreary County. Visitation: 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Eagle Creek Church in McCreary County. Burial will follow in the Eagle Creek Cemetery in McCreary County.

 

  • June 24, 2008 - Henry "Bud" Tolliver, 97, of Colson passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at his residence. "Bud" was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Everidge Pigman. "Bud was preceded in death by his 1st wife: Della Collins Tolliver and his 2nd wife: Hazel Lee Blair Tolliver. Surviving are 1 son: Clarence Tolliver of Lima, Ohio; 1 daughter: Henrietta Thomas of Colson; 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral: 11:00 O'clock A.M. Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel.   • June 22, 2008 - John Paul Sturgill, 73, of McRoberts passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Wellmont Hospice Center in Bristol, Tennessee. Paul was the son of the late Audie and Liddie Stidham Sturgill. Surviving are 2 daughters: Lydia Ann Lay and Sandy Franks both of Ohio; 1 brother: Jim Sturgill of Whitesburg; 1 stepdaughter: Donna Mullins of Ohio; 1 stepbrother: Henderson Stidham of Tacoma, Virginia; 2 sisters: Gladys Murphy of Greenup and Virginia Jo Stallard of Peru, Indiana along with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma was the widow of I.D. Cornett. Surviving are 1 son: Jack Cornett of Whitesburg; 2 daughters: Norma Jean Dalton of Louisville and Wanda Back of Whitesburg; 1 sister: Ruby Cook of Alabama; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Surviving are her husband: Fred Dixon; 1 daughter: Michele Miller of Blackey; 3 sons: Billy Jones of Nicholasville, Travis Dixon of Blackey, and Thomas Dixon of Blackey; 4 sisters: Nancy Armstrong of Garrard, Linda Jones of Blackey, Jenny Hager of Nicholasville, and Teresa Wise of Nicholasville; 5 brothers: Roger Shultz of Garrard, Gary Caudill, David Caudill, William Caudill, and Martin Caudill all of Blackey; 3 grandchildren.   • June 20, 2008 - Wilda Jean Caudill, 68, of Blackey passed away Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Tri State Health and Rehab Center in Harrogate, Tennessee. Wilda was the widow of Elbert Caudill. Surviving are 1 son: Timothy Lee Caudill of Harrogate, Tennessee; 4 brothers: D.C. Hatton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bill Hatton of Mexico, Boyd Hatton of Isom, and Vernol Hatton of Blackey; 1 sister: Joyce Messer of Tennessee; 2 grandchildren. Graveside Service: 10:00 O'clock A.M. Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Pearl  Dixon Cemetery at Blackey. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Letcher Funeral Home.
