Doris Whitaker, 69, of Ovenfork passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Doris was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mattie Barnett Shepherd. She was the widow of Jim T. Whitaker Jr. Surviving is 3 sons: Jim T. Whitaker III and wife Christy of Cumberland, Tim Shepherd and wife Keshia of Payne Gap, and Tyler Shepherd and fiancee: Savanna of Ovenfork; 1 daughter: Teresa (Billy) Halcomb of Cumberland; 1 brother: Paul Shepherd and wife Diane of Richmond, Virginia; 3 sisters: Alma Day and husband Charlie of Blair, Laurie Turner of Putney, and Shirley Gibbs of Partridge; 7 grandchildren: Whitney Halcomb, Bradley Halcomb, Makayla Whitaker, Carlye Whitaker, Cullen Whitaker, Timothy Ryan Shepherd Jr., and Adaline Shepherd; special nephew: Matthew Whitaker of Lexington; special niece: Kristen Shepherd of Richmond; sisters-in-law: Loretta Shepherd, Phyllis Shepherd, and Wanda Shepherd; special friends: Billy Paul Maggard and family. Doris was preceded in death by her stepmother: Eartha Shepherd; 4 brothers; Herbert Joel Shepherd, Timothy Hayes Shepherd, Bent Shepherd, and Herbert Harold Shepherd. Funeral: 2:00 O'clock P.M. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Glen Cornett & others officiating. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Whitaker Cemetery at Letcher, Kentucky.
