Jerry Ray Barker, of Whitco, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was born February 14, 1939, being 80 years and 1 day of age at the time of his passing.
Jerry attended King’s Chapel Church at Whitco and was a member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and elk watching in recent years. Jerry was known to be a hard working man and was employed in road construction for over fifty years. He was the owner and operator of Anchor Paving Company and retired at age 77 due to illness.
Surviving are his wife: Alberta Hatton Barker; 2 daughters: Sherry Barker Sturgill of Whitco and Missy (Chris) Caudill of Whitco; 2 sisters: Barbara Prichard of Whitesburg and Kathy (Burgess) Napier of Whitesburg; 3 grandchildren: Matt (Lacie) Sturgill, Levi Caudill, and Laken Caudill along with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Hazel Martin Barker of Whitesburg, Kentucky; by 1 son: David Darrel Combs, of Whitco, Kentucky; and 2 brothers: Don Barker, of St, Louis, Missouri, and Wayne Barker, of Columbus, Indiana.
Visitation is at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 18, 2019, from 6 to 9 PM with family welcome at 5 PM. The funeral will be at 1 PM on Tuesday, February 19, 2018, at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frank Adams and Reverend Tony Brown.
