Ruth Ison, 82, of Whitesburg, passed away Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Ruth was the daughter of the late Thurston and Mattie Collins. Surviving is her husband: Ronald Ison; 3 sons: Ellis Stephen (Eugenia) Sturgill of Ermine, David Lynn (Madonna) Sturgill of Jenkins, and Thurston Randall Sturgill of High Hat; 5 daughters: Rosa Gaye (David) Day of Ermine, Lagena Ann (Greg) Ison of Isom, Effie Elaine (Larry) Scott of Dayton, Ohio, Ethel Diane (Ken) Lowe of Ermine, and Nancy Dawn Bailey of Millstone; 1 Brother: Windus; 6 Sisters: Gayle Franklin; Pauline Bates; Norma Jean Adams; Rena Vae Sturgill; Vergie Halcomb; Marietta Spangler. 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. Ruth was preceded in death by 7 Brothers: Roy, Lester, Billy, Estill, Thurston Jr., Bobby Joe, Jessie; sisters: Alberta and Ann, Funeral: 12:00 O'clock Noon, Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Gilley and Burdell Gilley officiating. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Monday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Kingdom Come Cemetery at Kingdom Come, Kentucky.
