Steve Stamper Obituary

Rev. Steve Stamper, 75, of Whitesburg passed away Friday, September 13, at the Letcher Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility in Whitesburg.

Steve was born May 29, 1944 to the late Hassel and Lora (Anderson) Stamper. He worked as a mechanic, fabricator, and welder for Southeast Coal Company. He met the love of his life, Patsy Maggard, and they were wed October 2, 1965 and would remain married for over fifty-three years until her passing on February 8 of this year.

On December 8, 1971 Steve made Jesus the Lord of his life and was never the same. He would go on to help found and serve as a long-time pastor of the Whitesburg Church of the Nazarene. He was an encourager to countless people throughout his pastorate and through the rest of his life. Only eternity will tell the impact he had.

Surviving are two daughters: Susan Tyree of Hazard and Lorrie Johnson of Corbin; one sister: Phyllis Caudill of Roxana; two grandchildren: Josh (Whitney) Tyree and Eric Johnson; and two great-grandchildren: Grayson and Finnley Tyree. Other than his late parents and wife, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Kelly.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 16 at the Letcher Funeral Home chapel at 1:00 pm with Pastor Josh Tyree officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandlick Cemetery at Whitesburg, KY.
