Viola June Caudill

March 28, 1921 ~ August 1, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Viola June Maggard Caudill was born on March 28, 1921 to Jesse Randall and Lydia Collins Maggard.  She attended Little Daniel School.  Vi married the love of her life, Elvin Caudill, January 19, 1946.  Their only daughter, Joyce Ann, was born a year later.  Joyce was their pride and joy.  Vi’s greatest pleasure in life was being a mother as well as a grandmother and great-grandmother.  She also loved being a sister, aunt, and friend.  Vi had a wonderful, outgoing personality, she never met a stranger, and her love for people was known countywide.  She loved helping and doing things for others throughout her lifetime.  Viola gave her life to Christ and joined the Mount Olivet Church in Blackey, KY on March 2, 1974.   She was a faithful servant of the Lord, enjoyed going to church, and attended every church service while she was residing at Letcher Manor Nursing Home.  Vi also enjoyed working with the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the VFW in Whitesburg, KY. 

            Our world was blessed with Viola for 96 years.  She peacefully passed on to her Heavenly home on August 1, 2017 at the Hazard Hospice Care Center, while surrounded by family members. 

            Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Randall and Lydia Collins Maggard; her beloved husband, Elvin Caudill; their precious daughter, Joyce Ann Polly and her son-in-law, Philip Edward Polly.  Also, the following siblings and spouses:  Irene Maggard; Ruth Maggard Rowland; Herb and Eulah Polly Maggard; Roberta Bentley Maggard; Jesse Randall Maggard, Jr; Bill and Eva Fitch Maggard; Den Collins; Mary Rose Maggard Adams; Iva Lou Maggard Franklin; and Jim Maggard. 

            She is survived by her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Regina Ann Polly and Stephen D. Rhoades; great-granddaughter, Victoria Joy Rhoades; great-grandson, Sterling Philip B. Rhoades, of North Port, FL; brother Earnest Maggard, Springfield, OH; sister Nancy Maggard Collins; and sister-in-law Peggy Fultz Maggard, of Isom, KY; nieces Sheila Maggard, Judy Maggard, Kim Maggard, and Keitha Maggard McKenzie; nephews, Pat Maggard, Bill Maggard, Jr., Randy Franklin, Bret Maggard, and Marty Collins; and great-niece, Kristie Collins Profitt.  Vi will be missed by a multitude of great-nieces and nephews as well as her extended church family and many dear friends. Funeral: 2:00 O'clock P.M. Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Elwood Cornett and Conard Profitt officiating. Visitation: 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Randall Maggard Cemetery at Isom, Kentucky.
