Alberta Hatton Barker, of Whitco, entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, Kentucky. She was born on May 7, 1932, at Sky in Breathitt County, Kentucky. Alberta was the seventh child of her late parents, Mattie Mullins Hatton and Johnny H. Hatton. “Bertie,” as she was known to many, was 93 years, 2 months, and 2 days young on the day of her passing.
Alberta is survived by her two daughters: Sherry Diana Sturgill and Missy (Chris) Caudill; three grandchildren: Matt (Cheyenne) Sturgill, Levi Caudill, and Laken (Blake) Caudill; one great grandson: Aiden Matthew; and a host of loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, David “Duke” Combs, in 2018 and her husband of 55 years, Jerry Barker, in 2019. Alberta was the last of her beloved mother's ten children being preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: William Junior Hatton, David Senior Hatton, James “Nig” Hatton, Roy Hatton, Claty Hatton, Fleta Mae Brown, Virgil Hatton, Ruthie Hatton, and Chester Lee Hatton.
Bertie loved her family, friends, and neighbors and lost far too many throughout her years but was thankful for everyone she had been blessed to know.
Celebration of Life at a later date.
