Alfred Gibson Obituary

Alfred Gibson was born June 11, 1943 to the late Codell and Zola Gibson. He passed from this life on February 7, 2020 at the age of 76. Alfred was married on May 2, 1964 to Sue Sturgill Gibson, and to this union was born three loving children, Lisa, Teresa and Carl. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War before beginning a career in construction as a heavy equipment operator. Alfred retired in 2005 giving he and Sue the opportunity to return to their Letcher County home where he loved UK basketball, going to auctions, reading and watching t.v. westerns, as well as doting on his dog, Bandit. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and family including his grandchildren who were his whole world. He possessed an infectious sense of humor that he shared with all who knew him. This never left him, even in later years, when many would have given in to his physical restrictions, Alfred took it in stride and would make every effort to get out into the community to see those he loved. He was a member of the Cowan Chapel Church, V.F.W Post 5829, and American Legion Post 152. Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Sue, of Whitesburg, Kentucky. Daughters: Lisa (Kevin) Brown of Fredricksburg, Virginia, and Teresa (Stacy) Tubbs of Neon, Kentucky. Daughter-in-law, Jaclyn Gibson of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Grandchildren: Hannah Brown, Carley Gibson, Samantha Tubbs, Ryan Brown, and Carl Gibson. Also left to cherish his memory are: Brothers: Alex, William, Morris, Thomas, and Codell Jr. Sisters: Caldonia Adams, Evyonne Adams, Ruth Shepherd, and Rita Collins, and extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his son, Carl; brothers, Bill and Merty; and his sister, Mary Nelson. Funeral 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel.
