Bruce Caudill was born on the head of the left fork of Doty Creek on July 23rd, 1948, the last child of Byron and Ettie Caudill. He was educated at the Doty Creek School and Letcher High School, and drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He served two years stateside during the Vietnam War. In 1971, he married Margaret Blair in Clintwood, Virginia. Together they had one son, Scotty. In his spare time, Bruce enjoyed roaming the mountains of Letcher County, enjoying nature during the day and earnestly pursing hunting at night, walking many miles in snow and cold with his favorite dogs and often a large cadre of family and neighbors. But spare time did not come often enough, as Bruce worked long and hard hours and sacrificed much for the betterment of his small family. In 1999, Bruce was blessed with the first of his grandchildren, Matthew Dylan, and then in 2001, Joshua Logan.
Bruce had a deep and resolute faith in God and enjoyed reading the Bible. He prided himself on his astounding knowledge of the Bible and taught Sunday School for many years.
In addition to his loving wife of 52 years, son, and grandsons, Bruce is survived by sisters Imogene, Jane, Adeline, brother Carl, and special friend/granddog, Ghost, special friends, BJ and Buck Trent, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Burnette, Bert, Earl, Harold, and Haskel; sisters Elaine and Beatrice.
