Charlie Baker Obituary

Charlie Monroe Baker was born on May 27, 1943. Passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:40 P.M. Charlie departed his earthly home for his Heavenly Home. Therefore, we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (for we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:6, 7, 8 KJV.

The late James A. and the late Kathleen Banks Baker were blessed with three sons: Loranzo Dow, Charlie Monroe, and the late Robert Larry.

After Kathleen's death, Charlie was blessed with another mother the late Edith McCray Baker. James and Edith were blessed with eleven children; Alvin, Nanetta, Solomon, Christine, Barbara, Archie, Elcainey, Nettie Lou, Wendell, Seldon, and Wanda Fay.

Charlie and his siblings grew up on a farm in Millstone, Kentucky enjoying the outdoors as their playground. They worked hard on the farm taking care of the animals and raising a garden. Charlie enjoyed roaming the mountains exploring, hunting, and making things with his hands. He often made toys out of things he found around the farm. Charlie loved his family very much and told many stories of their time together growing up on the farm.

Charlie married Marie Ann Bentley on October 13, 1966. They were blessed with a daughter, the late Maria Montlenia "Mossie" Baker who was instrumental in leading Charlie to Jesus because of the way she loved and served Jesus. Charlie chose to serve Jesus in April 1983 during a revival at Whitesburg First Baptist Church. Charlie served Jesus through his friendliness and his ability to talk to anyone. He served by teaching Sunday School, VBS, VBS Training, as well as being a Deacon. He also used his carpentry and electrical skills to serve many in need through Families on Mission, Acts 1:8 Families, Baptist Builders, and Disaster Relief as well as his local church. Charlie loved giving and making people happy. Many times, especially during his illness, he would say, "At least I got a laugh out of you." Later Charlie and Ann were blessed with the adoption of a daughter, Barbara Ann Baker Blunt (Rickey).

Charlie never had blood grandchildren, but he was blessed to be called Papaw by many children who chose to call him Papaw on their own which was a blessing to Charlie. Charlie's greatest wish was that his family and friends would know Jesus and spend eternity with him in heaven. Charlie considered everyone his friend so if you ever talked just a few words with him he considered you his friend. Charlie will be greatly missed but if you know Jesus it will only be a short time until we meet again.
