Cora (Cornett) Caudill

Cora Cornett Caudill of Letcher, Letcher County Kentucky was born on March 15, 1933 to Dave and Cindy Sparkman Cornett of Gordon, Kentucky. Cora was 91 years 4 months and 24 days at the time of her passing.

Cora was reared in a small three room home that sat on the Gordon side of Pine Mountain approximately where the gravel quarry is today. Cora attended Hurricane Gap school from first grade through eighth grade, then complete her high school education at Kingdom Come High School graduating in the spring of 1952. School was important to Cora. When attending both Hurricane Gap and Kingdom Come, much of the time was walking, regardless of the weather, to and from school every day. 

During her life she had several jobs from cooking in a boarding house, Wardrup Packing House, owner and operator of a custard stand, a cafeteria cook and also secretary at Blackey and then Letcher Schools until her retirement.

She is preceded in death by here husband of 55 years Hiram Caudill and her parents, Dave and Cindy Sparkman Cornett along with one brother, James Cornett, and three sisters, Freda Cornett Bradley Sumpter, Virgie Cornett and Evelyn Cornett Holbrook.

She is survived by one daughter Joyce (Ronnie Ball) of Tennessee, one granddaughter Kristi (Dareck Byrd) of Tennessee and a brother-in-law Clarence Caudill of Mayking, KY. She also has several nieces, nephews and good friends to mourn her passing.

Cora will be missed by all those that knew her. Her cooking and fried pies have kept many of her friends coming to the house for more of her delicious food. Not only did she cook delicious meals, but was a true artist at her quilt making, sculptured dolls and crocheting. 

Funeral: 1:00 O'clock P.M. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Bruce Gilley and Bill Jones officiating. Visitation: 11:30 A.M. Saturday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, Kentucky.
