Duane Yonts age 88 of Little Cowan, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Whitesburg ARH Hospital.
Duane was a retired Postmaster after operated the general store and post office at Linefork, KY for 28 years. After retiring, he worked for the County and helped build the Letcher County Recycle Center that was recognized nationally and served as a model for the state. He loved his family and friends, hunting and fishing the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, and raising a big garden each year.
Duane was the 7th son in his family and he was the 7th son to serve honorably in the United States military. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict, and fondly remembered his days as a US Army Paratrooper and serving in the Far East.
Duane was a member of the Mayking Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a Deacon, gave his time freely to help improve the church, and was always ready to give his testimony.
Duane is survived by his loving wife Anna June of 63 years; his baby sister and brother-in-law, Lou and Major Sparks; son: Roger D. Yonts and his wife Tracy, Joey E. Yonts and his wife Donna, Amie R. Daniels and her husband Jeff; Granddaughters Jessica (Matt) Bearden, Beth (Marc) Hawk; Tasha (Jimmy) Brown; Grandsons Joseph Yonts; Wesley (Mallie) Yonts, Zach (Abigail) Ferris; Step-Granddaughters Brittany (Cal) Carden; Brooke Walker; Katherine (Matt) Christman; 5 Great-Granddaughters; and 10 Great-Grandsons.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Faris and Ada Yonts; brothers, Ralph, Curt, Jim, Clyde, Russell, Herb, and Gene; and sisters, Marie (Ree) and Stella.
Funeral: 11:00 O'clock A.M. Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Banks and Tim Moushon officiating. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hop Gibson Cemetery at Little Cowan, Kentucky.
