Emma Rae (Adams) Amburgey

Emma Rae Amburgey, 89, passed away Saturday December 6, 2025 at the Whitesburg Regional Hospital. Emma was born on January 6, 1936 to the late David and Christina Adams. She was married to the late Owen Amburgey on November 11, 1955. 

Emma worked along side Owen at Roxana Gulf for 24 years. She was a longtime member of the Letcher Area Homemakers, a volunteer for the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and worked 7 years for MCHC. She enjoyed the outdoors and found peace and comfort in her flowers and yard work.

Emma is survived by her daughter Kim (Michael) Combs, 2 brothers Hal Adams and David (Retta) Adams, along with a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Emma was preceded in death by her husband Owen Amburgey, 3 sisters: Sara Lou Adams, Carolyn (Dot) Gilley, and June Whitaker, 1 brother Phillip Adams, 2 sisters-in-law: Jeanie Adams and Claudetta Adams, 2 brothers-in-law: Clarence Whitaker and Charles Gilley, and a very special friend Phyllis Caudill.

Funeral: 11:00 O'clock A.M. Wednesday, December 10th at Letcher Funeral Home with Elwood Cornett and Mike Adams officiating. Visitation: 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. Tuesday December 9th at Letcher Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitesburg First Baptist Church or Bluegrass Care Navigators (hospice).
