Ida Boggs Obituary

Ida Lillian Boggs, wife of the late Ray Boggs and daughter of the late William Henry and Florence Brown, was born at Crown, Kentucky, November 24, 1938. She entered eternal life Friday, March 28, 2025, at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, being 86 years, 4 months, and 4 days of age at the time of her passing.

She grew up in the Dry Fork community of Letcher County and graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1956. She attended Lee's Junior College, then accepted her first teaching assignment at the one-room Upper Dry Fork School in the fall of 1957. She married Ray Boggs of Kingscreek, Kentucky on May 23, 1959. Lillian later taught school at Haymond Grade School, UZ Grade School and Cowan Elementary for a total of 34 years.

Lillian was a 1965 graduate of Pikeville College, and a year prior in 1964, she was among the first group of teachers assigned to Cowan Elementary, where she was teaching when she retired in 1991. Lillian loved teaching and continued to teach Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for nearly 30 years after her retirement, and was a member of Premium Baptist Church. Since her retirement, she especially loved cooking and taking care of her family. 

Lillian is survived by two sons, Stephen (Brenda) Boggs and Paul (Jennifer) Boggs, of Dry Fork; two grandchildren, Jessica (John) Goad of Ice and Shade (Jade) Boggs of Dry Fork; three great-grandchildren, Charleston Ray Boggs, Ransom Pete Goad and Graham Bailey Boggs; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

In addition her her husband and parents, Lillian was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd Brown, Glenn Brown, Earl Brown, and Roy Brown.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. with visitation services at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Benjamin H. Brown Cemetery at Dry Fork.
