Ina Carole (Johnson) Sowards

 Ina Carole Johnson Sowards of McRoberts, Kentucky passed into eternity on April 19, 2022 surrounded by her children & family.

Carole was born August 19, 1952 in Fleming, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Johnson Jr. and Margaret (Rucker) Johnson and a brother, Michael Wayne Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Sowards (Nicole) and son, Christopher Sowards (Layla) and two grandchildren, Emmeline and Ellis; sisters: Sharon (Jerry) Powell, Lynne (Bruce) Polly, and Lisa Johnson Moore and several nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. She is survived as well by her best friend, Darlene Collins, her roommate at Letcher Manor Nursing home.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Letcher Manor for the loving care they have provided during her stay there the last few years.
Carole was a Christian and lifelong member of the McRoberts Missionary Church. Carole was a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in childhood education and a Masters in counseling with a Rank I in IQ testing. She loved reading, quilting, playing Bingo and visiting with her family and friends. She was a devoted and loving mother to her two children, and loved her grandchildren dearly.

Funeral services will be provided by Letcher Funeral home in Whitesburg, with her uncle, Henry Rucker, officiating. Visitation is at 6 PM on Thursday evening, and the funeral service on Friday at 11 AM at Letcher Funeral home, with interment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
