James Marcum Obituary

“Jim” James Noah Marcum, aged 65, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024, in Johnson City, Tennessee. Born on October 21, 1958, in Fleming, Kentucky, his life was a testament to the enduring values of family, hard work, and zest for life.

Renowned for his boundless generosity and storytelling, Jim was the quintessential family patriarch who effortlessly brought warmth to any gathering and whom everyone could depend on. His laughter was infectious, and his unwavering support and endless humor brought joy to all. He took great pleasure in his culinary creations, sharing them with family and friends alike. Stories told around the family dinner table will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family, his children: James Derrick Marcum (Debra Marcum), Shawn Allen Marcum and Samantha Lynn Marcum.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and care to his devoted siblings, Della Marcum Johnson, Jeffery Allen Marcum, and Julia Marcum Giles. Jim's life was built upon the foundation set by his late parents, James Edgar Marcum and Della Mae Helton, who predeceased him.

An alumnus of Whitesburg High School, Jim furthered his education at Eastern Kentucky University and completed his studies at Welding School in Hazard, Kentucky, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and craftsmanship.

Jim honorably served his country in the US Air Force, from 1978 to 1983, carrying out his duties with integrity and pride. Earning high remarks from his superiors and acquiring many accommodations. Subsequently, he applied this same drive to foster a career when he moved to Ocala, Florida in the late 80s. Curating a successful career as a fabricator, founding JNM Fabrications and later JNM Ironworks in Ocala, FL.

Jim delighted in simpler pleasures – he was an avid reader, a movie enthusiast, had an almost completely healthy attachment to his motorcycle. His true delight was in the time spent surrounded by his family (and the rush of winning on a scratch-off).

The Marcum family invites friends and loved ones to pay their respects at Letcher Funeral Home, Whitesburg, Kentucky. The service will be on Friday, February 23rd, at 2pm.

A figure of immeasurable kindness and enduring charm, Jim's legacy is etched into the lives he touched. His departure leaves an unmistakable void, may his soul find peace eternal.
