James Pascal Miles, age 77, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. James was born in Wise, Virginia to the late Pascal and Bessie (DollarHyde) Miles. In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by two brothers, John David Miles and Larry Miles; one sister, Etta Ruth Berry; and an uncle, Charlie Miles.
James was a devoted Christian man, a loving husband, a proud father, and a beacon of strength and joy to all who knew him. He loved the Lord deeply and lived his faith daily with humility, kindness, and unwavering devotion. A proud American veteran, James honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during both the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was a hard-working man who spent his career caring for others, retiring from the VA, where he worked as a nursing assistant and an escort. James brought smiles and laughter wherever he went, with a warm spirit and a generous heart that gave monthly to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and never failed to lift those around him. He faithfully attended Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church, where he cherished his Christian brothers and sisters. James loved feeding birds and squirrels, spending time hunting and fishing, and crafting beautiful things with his hands through woodworking. He loved his God, his country, and his flag- and lived each day with purpose, humility, and love.
Those left to cherish and remember James include his beloved wife of 43 years, Sharon Miles; two sons, James T.P. Miles and Joseph Daniel Miles; three daughters, Misty Loretta Miles, Shana Ruth Ann (Rick) Harris and Bessie V. Miles; two sisters, Madeline McCool and Connie Sheets; a brother, Allen Gene Miles; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate James’ life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2025 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Rodney Deyton officiating. James’ son, James Miles, will provide a eulogy. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Thursday.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 6, 2025 in the Thornton Cemetery in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 PM on Friday.
The family would like to express a special thank you to their church family, neighbors and friends for all the prayers, love and support and the VA for their loving care shown to James during his illness.
