It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jemmie Ray Burke, a cherished member of our community. Jemmie, aged 86, peacefully departed from this world on November 6, 2023, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on February 1, 1937, in Beefhide, Kentucky, Jemmie was a man of honor and integrity. He embodied the values of hard work, dedication, and love for his family. Jemmie's life was a testament to the strength of character and the importance of genuine connections. He was a dedicated member of the Lonesome Pine Masonic Lodge for 61 years.
Jemmie is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Loretta (Pennell) Burke, with whom he shared 68 years, 9 months, and 28 days of unwavering commitment and devotion. Their love story is one that has inspired generations, a true testament to the power of a lasting partnership.
Jemmie's memory will forever be cherished by his son, Joey Dale Burke, and his wife, Rebecca, of Millstone, Kentucky. He was also a beloved father to his daughters, Debbie Kay Potter and her husband, Ronnie, of Neon, Kentucky, and Anna Rae Martin and her husband, David, of Middlesboro, Kentucky. Jemmie's children were his pride and joy, and he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and guidance.
In addition to his children, Jemmie is survived by his grandsons, Justin Ray Potter and Darryl Allen Martin. He found immense joy in watching them grow and succeed, instilling in them the values he held dear. Jemmie's great-grandchildren, Ty and Penelope Martin, brought him immeasurable happiness, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Also surviving, Vivian Ann Sergent. sister of McRoberts, Kentucky and James Arnold Burke, brother of Brandenburg, Kentucky.
Jemmie was preceded in death by his parents, Prentice and Sarah (Tackett) Burke, as well as his brother Kenneth Burke and his sister Barbara (Burke) Morgan. Their spirits now join Jemmie in eternal peace, reunited in a realm beyond our reach.
