Jo Ann (Back) Walters

Marjorie Jo Ann Walters, 92, of Blackey passed away Wednesday November 16, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maggie Dixon Back.

She was born May 18, 1930. She spent her childhood on Elk Creek and attended Carcassonne School.

She married the late Lowell Walters in December of 1950 and they chose to return to Blackey in October of 1960 to raise their family after his military retirement. She spent many years in this beloved community enjoying the Senior Citizens Center, her church, and Blackey Days.

Jo Ann is survived by her 3 sons: Jeff (Vicki) of London, Andrew (Lisa) of Leatherwood, and David (Leslei) of Prattville, Alabama. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Laura, Brent, Zachary, Whitney, Jackson, and Jenna and one deceased great grandchild, J.B. She was also survived by a host of relatives and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Agnan, Ray, Reedus, Jim, and John Back and by her sisters: Irene Brown, Minerva Craft, and Artie Campbell.

Visitations for Jo Ann will be Sunday November 20 at Letcher Funeral Home from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Monday November 21 at Mt. Olivet Old Regular Baptist Church from 11:00 am until the funeral hour of 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Dixon/Back Cemetery at Elk Creek.
