Marilyn Yvonne (Shelton) Sumpter

Marilyn Yvonne Sumpter, 86 of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Healthcare Center. Marilyn was the daughter of the late Cleo and Gertie Slaven Shelton. She was the widow of Linuel Sumpter. Marilyn retired from the United States Postal Service after 25 years of dedicated service. She was the Post Master of the Oven Fork and Eolia Post Offices. Surviving is 3 sons: Ronald (Gail) Sumpter of Ovenfork, Gregory (Sharon) Sumpter of Ovenfork and Larry (Margie) Sumpter of Castlewood, Virginia; 1 daughter: Kim (Ronnie) Sumpter Maggard of Mayking; 3 brothers: Donald Shelton of Partridge, Eddie Shelton of Partridge and Joe Shelton of Eolia; 1 Sister: Frances Ryan. Marilyn was preceded in death by 2 Grandchildren: Angela Gail Sumpter and David Travis McDaniels; 2 Sisters: Wilma Orick and  Barbara Creech; 1 Brother: Jack Shelton. 11 grandchildren: Adam Maggard, Brian Sumpter, Colter Sumpter, Damon Sumpter, Jason Sumpter, Zachary Sumpter, Amy Sumpter Sexton, April Maggard Herald, Bethany Sumpter Finn, Lorie Sumpter and Megan Sumpter Johnson; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by a brother: Roger Shelton. Private Funeral Services will be held.
