Martha (Brashear) Combs

Martha Jo Combs, 90, passed away Monday, May 13, 2024 at her residence at Smoot Creek, Whitesburg. Martha Jo was married to the late Burl Combs and was the daughter of the late Ray Brashear and Dessie (Ken) Whitaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitesburg, Ky. She enjoyed people, her family and always had a kind word for everyone she met. Surviving are her three children: Melissa (Ed) Newell, Michael Burl (Kim) Combs and Joe Mark (Vickie) Combs; 3 grandchildren: Joseph Newell, Zachary (April) Newell and Allison (Robbie) Huff; 3 great grandchildren: Chase Newell, Ava Newell and Brinkley Huff; 4 brothers: Jimmy (Bo) Brashear, Tommy (Mary) Brashear, Johnny (Kaye) Brashear and Randy (Venia) Whitaker; 2 sisters: Gertrude "Tootie" Murphy and Karen Sexton; 1 brother in law; Buddy Sexton, along with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Martha Jo was preceded in death by 1 brother: Billy Brashear; 1 sister: Jeanette Sexton and 2 brothers-in-law: Harold Murphy and Bruce Sexton. Funeral 1:00 O'clock P.M. Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Whitesburg First Baptist Church with Rev. Jenson Riddle officiating. Visitation: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday prior to the funeral at the Whitesburg First Baptist Church. Private family burial at the Combs cemetery at Smoot Creek, Kentucky. Memorial may be made to the Whitesburg First Baptist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
