Matthew Clay Buell

Matthew Clay Buell was born on May 11, 1991, and passed from this life on June 13, 2026.

Matthew is survived by his beloved mother, Patricia (Bill) Bentley; his father, Lawrence Buell Jr.; his step-sister, Ali (Gursey) Bentley Singh; his paternal grandmother, Maxine Buell; and his fiancée, Savannah Broderick.

A 2009 graduate of Letcher County Central High School, Matthew continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University. He went on to build a successful career in law enforcement, serving with both the Whitesburg Police Department and the Leslie County Sheriff’s Department.

Matthew was known for his warm smile, kind heart,  his devout love of his country, and above all, his love for the Lord. During his school years, he enjoyed playing soccer and formed many lifelong friendships. He found great joy in playing his guitar. Matthew gave his life to the Lord at an early age and cherished his years of fellowship and worship at First Baptist Church.

Matthew shared a special bond with his fiancée, Savannah Broderick, whose love, companionship, and support brought great happiness to his life. Together they created many treasured memories that will forever be held close by those who knew and loved them.

Matthew was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Norma Jean Polly Collins, Harlan Collins, and Lawrence Buell Sr.

Matthew will be remembered for his faith, his friendship, his dedication to serving others, and the warmth he shared with everyone who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Funeral: 3:00 O'clock P.M. Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the Whitesburg First Baptist Church with Tony Brown officiating. Visitation: 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitesburg First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, Kentucky.
