Melinda Yvonne Stevans, 60, of Payne Gap, KY, passed away on May 26, 2023, at Whitesburg ARH Hospital. She was born on February 4, 1963, in Dayton, OH, and spent her childhood residing in Pontiac, MI, then moving into the Jenkins area as a teenager where she spent the last 42 years of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Gary Underwood, Linda Sue Rains, her stepfather Donnie V. Rains, and brother, Donnie V. Rains II. She is survived by her daughters, Amber Nicole Stevans, and Andrea Victoria Reynolds (Morgan). She was the proud “Mimi” of five grandchildren: Emma Marie, Jackson Clint, Aubrey Nicole, Morgan Thomas, and William James. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert A. Rains (Priscilla), and Gary L. Underwood (Rebecca A.), a sister, Jennifer V. Underwood, sister-in-law Tammy M. Rains, and was a beloved “Aunt Mimi” to many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. Melinda was a life-long Christian, who enjoyed attending church and formerly serving as a youth leader and Sunday school teacher. She spent many years as a radio personality where she hosted her own show, “Mel’s Diner,” and enjoyed writing and recording commercials and working with the community in many ways. She would be described by all who know her as loving, generous, outgoing, funny, and unforgettable. Visitation will be at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg, KY, on Monday, 29, 2023 at 6:00 PM, and funeral services at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, also at Letcher Funeral Home. A burial will follow in the Whitaker Cemetery in Seco, KY.
