Ray "Yogi" Baker, 88 of Thornton, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at his residence. Ray was the son of the late Millard and Easter Sexton Baker. He was the widower of Carrie Willa Baker.
Ray was a loving dad, husband, grandfather, Christian, uncle, brother, and friend. He was a retired coal miner, and liked to work on an end loader at the scrap yard. He was a great neighbor and friend to all, and was eager to help anyone who needed it. Ray was a pillar of his community, and an iconic figure in the county. He enjoyed working, spending time with family, UK basketball, and cowboy tv shows.
Ray leaves behind two sons: Randall (Kathy) Baker and Rondall (Missy) Baker all of Thornton, Ky; two brothers: Sid (Patty) Baker of McRoberts and Terry (Kathy) Baker Colson; four sisters: Lou Cook of Dry Fork, Sherry (Melvin) Dyer of Kingscreek, Ritter Wynn of Thornton, and Mildred Faye (Dutch) Hurley of Stopover; 3 grandchildren: LaRanda (Tabby), Cody (Maggie), and Holly (Jordan); two great grandchildren: Eli and Acacia; 3 special caregivers: Ruby Boggs, Lou Cook, and Arlis Couch "Chief".
Ray was preceded in death by six siblings: Ottis, Clark, Wanda Gay, Sue, Hargis "Bo", and Joe.
Funeral: 12:00 PM noon Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church with Bill Craft and Tim Muchon officiating. Visitation: 6:00 PM Sunday at the church. Burial will follow in the Baker Family Cemetery at Thornton, Kentucky.
