Russell D. Akers, biological son of the late Irene Hogg was born on November 5th, 1945 on Linefork, Ky.
He passed away Sunday, January 5th, 2025 at the Whitesburg ARH Hospital being 79 years and 2 months at the time of his passing. He entered eternal life during his sleep peacefully.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a caring friend to all who knew him.
He loved to work in his "show garden", ginsenging, making funnel cakes and chicken and dumplings. He loved telling stories of the past.
He worked many year in the coal mines, driving coal trucks and working on strip jobs running a loader.
He was a member of the Kingscreek Community Church and the Kingscreek Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Annett Akers of Kingscreek; children: Rusty Akers (Tori) of Morristown, Tennessee, Laverna Collie (Chad) of Roxana, Arthur Holland (Susan) Michigan and Cody Holland (Madison) of Richmond.
Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Daianara Branham (Hunter), Callie Akers and Ella Akers.
Surviving is a brother: Marshall Roark; sisters: Brenda Fields, Heda Dixon and Darlene Dixon (Herman).
Preceding him in death is 5 brothers: Rose Roark, Arnie Roark, Fess Roark, Jay Roark and Arvil Roark; 6 sisters: Ora Mattingly, Dukie Halcomb, Evalee Roark, Louise Roark, Mary Alice Worbington and Letta Jane Schebler.
He was raised from the age of 4 years old by grandparents: John D. and Laura Roark after the passing of his mother.
He loved all his nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 1:00 O'clock P.M. Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the Kingscreek Community Church with Jimmy Dotson and John Banks officiating. Visitation: 6:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Kingscreek Community Church. Burial will follow in the Ingrams Creek Cemetery at Linefork, Kentucky.
