Scotty Amburgey Obituary

Scotty Dean Amburgey, age 49, died peacefully with his loving wife, Julie, by his side on Sunday, January
28th , 2024, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.
It is hard to limit the summation of Scotty’s life to just one page when he lived a very full and vibrant life
that impacted everyone he met. During his life, Scotty held a lot of important roles, but his greatest
callings were to be a servant of the Lord, pastor, husband, dad, son, uncle, brother, teacher, coach, and
school bus driver. He never passed up a chance to pray for someone, to offer an encouraging word, or to
lighten the mood with his quick wit and good humor. Scotty’s greatest love besides the Lord, Julie, and
his children, was football (and any other sport when it wasn’t football season). In his teenage years, he
loved to play it, and as he became older, he loved to watch it, coach it, and talk about it. Scotty had an
impeccable way of working the Lord into every conversation; if he wasn’t talking to someone about the
Lord, he was being a servant of the Lord and witnessing to people through his patience, good nature,
and grace. When Scotty preached, he would have a central Bible verse from which he based his
sermons. Almost every Sunday, he would say, “this is my favorite verse of the Bible.” After preaching
countless sermons, it was determined that the whole Bible was his favorite. Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and
know that I am God” was Scotty’s actual favorite verse and his life was a testimony to waiting on God
and acting on His will.
Scotty was born on February 9, 1974, to Sidney Amburgey and resided on Burgey’s Creek in Knott Co. for
most of his life. He is preceded in death by his mamaw, Glenna Collins Amburgey. He is survived by his
wife of 28 years, Julie Beth Amburgey; two sons, Colby Scott and Conner Laine Amburgey; a special
nephew and niece, Logan Daniel and Makenna Noel Martin; his mother, Sidney Amburgey; his papaw,
Eugene Amburgey; and a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephew, in-laws, and many who loved him.
