Willene Bentley Tubbs of Cromona, Kentucky passed from this life Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Willene was the daughter of the late Will and Eva Cook Bentley, born September 9, 1941.
She was married to the love of her life, Can Martin Tubbs, on June 13, 1964, who passed away November 10, 2011.
Willene and Can lived an extraordinary life, welcoming their son, Stacy, and building their future at their home in Cromona.
While Can worked in the mining industry, Willene went to work as the secretary of Fleming-Neon High School in 1963. It was there that she made friends of the school staff, and was a maternal confidant to the thousands of students that passed through her door. Whether it was to console a broken heart, or assist someone to make the dreaded call to a parent to let them know that they would be spending time after school that day to serve out a punishment, Willene’s compassionate demeanor was a mainstay in the lives of all students, teachers, counselors, janitors, cooks, aids and principals alike.
She was sorely missed when she retired after 35 years of service. Willene was a longtime member of the Sergent United Methodist Church, and a member of the Hester Chapter of the Eastern Star #54 for over 50 years.
But what Willene will be forever known for is her kindness, especially toward children of all ages.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Stacy and his wife, Teresa of Cromona, Ky.; granddaughter, Samantha (Gavin); and Nick Whitaker, who Willene treated as a grandson since birth. Brothers, Tommy Bentley and Johnny Bentley, both of Cromona, also survive, as well as a sister, Glenda Sue Hall of Kite, Ky.; and special nieces, Sonja Grimm and Pat Bentley, who were always there for Willene in her time of need.
Funeral: 12:00 O'clock Noon Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Freddie Hall officiating. Visitation: 5:00 P.M. Friday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Thornton Cemetery at Thornton, Kentucky.
