Winfred Campbell, 82, of Cumberland passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Healthcare Center.
Winfred distinguished himself by meritorious as records clerk in the officer's records subsection, records and reports section of the military personnel branch, Walter Reed Army Medical Center August 12, 1965 during this time Winfred demonstrated qualities far exceeding those of a person with his experience in the service and grade. His outstanding initiative, speed, accuracy, and devotion to duty, combined with his unusual ability to work with all personnel regardless of grade identified him as a truly outstanding soldier and clerk.
Winfred is the son of the late Hizzie and Laura Jones Campbell. Surviving are his wife of 57 years: Yvonne Campbell; 1 Son: Todd Campbell of North Carolina; 2 Daughters: Wendy Christian of Richmond; Cindy Campbell of North Carolina; 1 Sister: Janis Baker of Lexington; 5 Grandchildren: Whitney Smith, Caitlin Cox, Megan Bevill, Dylan Bevill, Karis Campbell; 3 Great Grandchildren: Parker Smith, Pierson Smith, Camden Cox.
He was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: Bill Campbell and H.B. Campbell.
Funeral 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Danny Dixon officiating. Visitation 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Campbell Family Cemetery at Ulvah.
